German Intermediate Course I (B1.1)

10-week-course: Tuesdays at 7:00pm (EST)

  • Started May 3
  • 279 US dollars
  • Online (via Zoom)

Class Description

This level is for anyone who can use the present and past tenses to talk about everyday activities. You should feel comfortable in the present and past tense (Perfekt) and be able to use accusative and dative cases as well as the respective adjective endings (e.g. Ich bin mit meinem kleinen Hund in den Park gegangen). You will also be expected to know some verbs that require the dative case (e.g. Ich helfe dem Mann.) and the word order following "wenn" (e.g. Wenn die Sonne scheint, gehen wir zum Strand.). In this level, students will learn reflexive verbs (e.g. sich waschen), further conjunctions (i.a. obwohl), and the future tense. You will learn the Infinitivkonstruktion mit zu (e.g. I am excited to see you = Ich freue mich dich zu sehen) and da-compounds (e.g. "Wir fangen damit an."). We put a strong emphasis on speaking exercises in this level to become more fluent. We aim to become more confident in small talk situations, talk about future plans and dreams as well as discuss more complex topics, such as the German education system. We have very small class sizes with a maximum of 5 students per class. That way, we ensure that all course participants receive a lot of one-on-one attention, so the class can be tailored to our students' needs. This enables our students to learn the language very fast and efficiently. We pursue a conversational approach in all our classes to get our students to speak the language confidently as quickly as possible. When learning a language, it is crucial to actually practice speaking the language to be prepared for conversations in real life situations. This can be achieved best in an intimate class setting with few students as each student benefits from having lots of time to speak in class. The course fee of $279 covers all the costs - 10 classes à 1.5 hours, the coursebook and the registration fee. Everyone signing up by April 20 will receive a $50-discount when using the coupon code EARLYBIRD. All online language courses are held via Zoom and we would ask you to install the Zoom desktop app before the class. You will receive the link within 24 hours before the course starts. After successfully completing the class, we offer to provide a certificate of completion upon request. We are committed to offering follow-up courses for all our students who wish to continue taking the next higher course level. We will offer follow-up courses starting in April, July and October.
